Discussing the Native Americans from their countries can help spark the conversation and the topic of class that day. It is a small incorporation but can be expanded into bigger projects and activities. The questions being asked follow the Blooms taxonomy model. The questions get more complex as you proceed. The questions asked will test the children’s knowledge and will allow them to apply the knowledge they retained or recall from the lesson. The last three questions follow the more abstract categories of the model. It allows the students to apply, analyze and evaluate the information they just learned and have stored in their memory. The assessment method I used in the lesson was to make the students recall two new facts they learned about the topic. During the last few minutes of the class time the students had to reflect on the activities they completed and the lesson taught in order to write down what the remembered. From creating a Venn diagram to creating their own maps the students had to bring bring out their creative sides. Also with their writing they had to be descriptive in order to understand their creations. Dual Code Processing was used throughout the lessons in order to help the students understand the topic. Using both verbal and non-verbal methods will make learning the information much easier. Some students learn better with visuals and others learn better by listening. Using pictures and maps will help the students that prefer visual context learn and the lecture part of the lesson will help the students that learn by listening. Erickson’s theory is used in the classroom to better understand the students and their needs. Each child is different and as a teacher it is important to realize its strengths and weaknesses. The students in fourth grade can be categorized under the industry vs. inferiority stage. During the group work students can assign on another jobs in the group. By assigning jobs the students are not only organized but also providing them with a sense of accomplishment when they complete their job
