As apart of the Legal Problems and Communication subject this semester, I was required to participate in two group assessments. Groups were formed during a tutorial class and mine consisted of four individuals. Assessments one and two consisted of a factual scenario, a research log and an oral presentation. Firstly, the group were required to research and report on relevant sources through the use of appropriate electronic databases. Secondly, the group were required to produce an outline of argument, followed by an individual oral presentation. The effectiveness of the teamwork was then assessed upon completion of the second assessment.
The team driven assessment utilised a variety of skills with several elements. One specific skill that our team displayed was goal setting. A goal can be defined as “a specific and measurable accomplishment to be achieved within a specified time and under specific cost constraints”. Effective goal setting allows a team to set clear and concise objectives that are; specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound (S.M.A.R.T). One reflective improvement is to introduce ongoing debriefing at a team performance level. This crucial component would allow team members to analyse and synthesis information, whilst addressing emotional states. Two delivery elements that effective meetings could start with are essentially an outline of the plan or a well-built agenda. In reflection our group were effective in setting goals and ineffective in creating a plan for external impacts on achieving them. Introducing this strategy would ensure that team members had the ability to communicate and introduce collective strategies to tackle any arising obstacles. Essentially having a planned debriefing session as set out in an agenda would on a group level have been
