Graduation Speech: My First Day In High School

Hearing my name called through a microphone, I started walking up the stairs, onto the stage where my diploma waited. The piece of paper that signified the end of my high school career. All of the accomplishments and struggles I faced in those four years was acknowledged with this one piece of paper. “Thank you!” I said, shaking hands with the head of school and reaching out for the diploma. Starting my descent off stage I felt pride and relief. Waiting for me at the stairs was the teacher who would walk me back to my seat.
“Congratulations, Honey! I’m so proud of you,” Mrs. Pierson said with tears in her eyes as I walked off stage into her arms. “Thank you so much,” I mumbled into her shoulder. “I can’t believe I’m officially a graduated student!” In that moment I remember thinking back to my first day of the school year. I had just finished my morning classes and was walking up the stairs to the 20 minute homeroom period I had with Mrs. Pierson. Upon starting class, Mrs. Pierson began crying, knowing that this was the last year she would have with her girls. That day I hadn’t felt sad like her, I felt excited and anticipatory for the rest of the school year. I had heard from other seniors that this year would be a piece of cake! I

High school graduation was a day we had dreamed of for years. In all the movies, all the T.V. shows and books, graduation seems like the most defining moment of the character’s lives. Especially for my classmates and I, who spent all of high school with weights on our shoulders to be better than the other schools, even better than our closest friends. With so much to achieve before we could be done graduation always seemed like a far off dream. Finally grasping my diploma in my hands left me feeling confused and lost. I had no more assignments to turn it, no more final grades to receive, I was truly done with high
