When we stop to think about it, we realize that there’s actually not much in life that’s free. When we see something we need or want, we always look for the price tag. If we’re told that something’s free, we wonder, “What’s the catch?” So when I say eternal life, the greatest gift ever offered is free, you then have every right to wonder and ask, “Where did you get that information?” The answer is, no one else, but from God. Who said in Romans 6:23b, “…but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Unfortunately, this free gift of God is not earned or deserved by us, men. This is found in Ephesians 2:8-9 which says, “You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God’s gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own. Is it relevant to our lives? Well, the answer is yes, because there is a worldwide problem called sin. Of course, God did not create sin because He loves us and He is perfect and without sin. God also created the world perfect and sinless. Sin originated when the angels rebelled and fell from heaven, but the first sin of the human race was committed by Adam and Eve. In Romans 5:12, “Adam sinned, and that sin brought death into the world. Now everyone has sinned, and so everyone must die.” This means that sin separates us from God therefore it must be removed for us to have eternal life. But man alone cannot save himself because we are all wretched and helpless sinners who need God’s mercy and grace. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” which means no one is exempted from sin. No one can also remove his or her sins. If that is so, how then can we acquire God’s grace and save ourselves from eternal
