Goals For Student Success

Goals are important when someone wants to be successful in life. Whether it be getting good grades so as to accomplish the goal of getting a scholarship, or even just finishing a book by the end of a week, goals help set us up for success. Freshman year of college is said to come with its fair share of challenges. With the help of goal setting, I hope to make some of the challenges less daunting. My goals for my freshman year are getting into the habit of studying more during first semester, obtaining a 3.0 GPA first semester, and making my long distance relationship work through college. These three goals will take hard work and dedication, but the result in the end will be worth it. My first goal is to get into the habit of studying more …show more content…
This is an enabling goal for a long term goal of being a better student. When I get into the habit of studying more each day, I will perform better on exams. This will lead to better grades and thus, a higher GPA. To accomplish this, the first step will be building in an hour and a half into each day of the week to study. This means I will study for my five classes or focus on one class in particular that may have an exam coming up. The next step will be to form a study group with some of my classmates from my four classes. This will help to remember the information better because having to explain a topic for a class such as Psychology 120 will make my brain retain it. An obstacle that could interfere in achieving this goal is a family emergency. There has already been one that has drawn my attention away from classes and resulted in poor work. To avoid this from being a distractor from …show more content…
This is a long term goal because it years if all goes well. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year and a half so this is a big change for us. To accomplish this goal, we have two main steps. The first step is to keep communicating. Communication has been the basis of not only our relationship, but also when we were friends. This means talking whenever something is not going well, texting each other when we can, or doing Skype calls when we have the chance. The other step is to see each other during breaks. We got lucky in that our spring breaks line up this year. However, winter break would be a better time to see each other because we would get to spend more time together to make up for the lost time. One obstacle we have talked about is academics. The first solution we came up with was to tell the other when we had a lot of classwork to do and could not talk. The other solution we had was for us to help the other out. My boyfriend is not a strong writer so I could edit his papers for him. He could help me with math as I am not very good with math. In keeping our relationship going throughout these next four years, our relationship will be stronger and show us that we can make it through a long distance relationship. I deserve this goal because I have been incredibly happy with my boyfriend and am thankful he is one of my support

However, to obtain the right education and experiences to enable this, goals (both short-term and long-term) must be set. My short-term goals include making A’s in all of my courses this semester, securing an internship for the summer involving animals, and acing all of my chemistry 101 tests. As for my long-term goals, I want to get accepted into veterinary school, maintain a 3.5 or higher GPR as I get my undergraduate degree, and to positively impact others lives with my work.…
