There are steps in setting up a goal that should be followed. They are like the golden rules or should we say, the sacred rules of goal setting. We say goal setting, because this is where everything supposedly starts. You cannot skip these steps otherwise you will expose yourself to the possibility of failing.
The key is to seat down and go through the different stages of setting up a goal in writing, like a good strategist would. You will first have to set up a plan, then evaluate the timing needed to accomplish this plan, chose the tools needed so that your plan becomes successful, set what is realistic as a goal and then check if you are on the right path. So, here not only will you have to elaborate the number of hours needed to be put on your project weekly, but you will also have to evaluate the total number of hours needed monthly. Strictly stick to the amount of hours (timing), you’ve decided to follow, do not try to minimize the work load ahead, and think that since you’ve missed out on some activity time this week, you will add up the time missed next week. This will only waste you some time, and lead you to fail. We feel we have to remind this, because people feel that since it’s a long term goal, there is enough time; which is not the case; long term goals mean huge workloads, they also mean complicated project, and remember that what takes time, needs as much focus as what can be done in record time (in terms of objectives), because you can easily lose focus, in both cases. So, always stick to your plan no matter what. If for instance, you are a builder and you are managing a team that is involved in construction, you will definitely sign a contract that will tie you to the project for a certain amount of time. And if you don’t respect the deadline, your income might be affected (it can be deducted from the time you fell behind, in other word, deducted from any delay affecting the completion of the building). This illustration simply means that some goals are unattainable unless you’ve reached the little goals, or objectives that should lead you to them. In these cases, you will have to go through small little steps or should we say small little projects, to be able to reach the bigger project. Like for instance, if your goal is to make it big in the music industry, then you will have to promote yourself through YouTube videos, sometimes televised contests, or singing background vocals for other well-known singers, etc… before you can get noticed and get a shot at becoming a
