Today, every aspect of our civilized world is connected. You can call, text, message, chat, and video chat family in New York when you 're visiting Melbourne, or you could be in Bolivia and friend someone on social media that lives in St. Petersburg. The technology that we have today allows us to stay in contact with the rest of the world 24/7. Because of our advanced and technologically connected world, a new issue has arisen in our world of communication and relationships with others. While it is easier to stay in contact and connect with others, an issue of “globalization of superficiality” has come to be a major part of our world and its people. We have opinions on other countries and their people, whether we understand them or not. But as much as we could want to say we learn and study our world in its full effect that cannot be true. We can “study” Europe, Asia, or the Middle East in school and through our textbooks, but through a biased, nationalistic perspective. To understand what is going on and the history of other cultures, religions, and countries, we have to go and experience ourselves, get a first-hand account of what it is like to be a part of it. Studying abroad will give me that chance to travel and experience other parts of the world different than my own and gain a little bit more of an understanding of how our world works, is connected, and exists. To live, go to school, and socialize in countries where the culture and religion are very different than my own is, in my opinion, the only way to “study” the world, but conducting your own “experiments” and observing the environment around you. Experiences and people change people. To want to gain a depth and change in yourself, you must come in contact with an experience or person that can help you engage in the actuality of one’s world and get below the surface of what we see. And that means traveling to places outside of your perspective, and meeting people with a different viewpoint of the world and reality It is very hard to expand and deepen one 's thought and imagination without allowing you to experience new perspectives. A refreshed and new perspective gained by traveling and studying abroad will allow for that depth of thought and imagination. I cannot expect myself to study more and understand more if I do not go out and find the things that allow me to grow and learn. Going abroad to Greece is an enriching experience in thought and imagination because of its history and culture of philosophy, religion, and invention. Studying the culture and the people will create a greater depth of the mind than the one I have, just having studied in the United
