For my extra credit assignment, I decided to visit the George Washington Library Museum in College Station, Texas. This museum is one of the top attractions in the State of Texas because it creates both an educational and entertaining experience. My visit to the museum allowed me to gain lots of knowledge inside the life of our former president, George Bush, and his family. My visit to the museum allowed me to learn about a temporarily exhibit which was “Driven to Drive: Defining our Identity.” This exhibit consisted of a room full of current and past automobiles, and their history of how they were created and about their manufactures. George Bush was elected as the 41st President of the United States on November 8th, 1988. He won 53.1% of the popular vote and 426 electoral votes according to the statistics in the exhibit. As you enter into this exhibit, you see a replica of the White House and through the windows, you are able to interact with it to see what all the rooms in the White House looked like. The principle focus was the oval office and how President Bush once had it set up. In this part of the exhibit, they encourage the visitors to take pictures on the chair that Bush once sat on. Another focus of this exhibit was the Laurel Office at Camp David. The museum set up a replica of the room and explained that it was the scene of many of President Bush’s most important decisions. Camp David was also the home to many family memories, as displayed in pictures and videos, where they spent many Christmases and the marriage of their daughter. My favorite part of this exhibit was that every artifact came straight from Camp David, making it a more enjoyable atmosphere. Another noticeable and important part of this exhibit was a part of the Berlin Wall from the Cold War. Visitors were allowed to go up to the wall and touch it, while reading about how it got there and the importance behind it. The museum had many exhibits including the life of Bush before he became president, his presidency and life after presidency. The museum’s exhibits include actual artifacts, films, documents, photographs and sound effects that made the whole experience more enjoyable and reliable. This museum includes part of the Berlin Wall, replicas of Camp David and the Situation Room, and an exhibit for the First Lady. My experiences at this museum were enjoyable, I enjoyed that the museum took you through the time life of George Bush. I also really enjoyed their temporary exhibit, they tied everything back to history and made it educational but fun. I would definitely return to this museum, I feel that there was so much information and facts that one trip was simply not enough.
