Besides being important to physical, social and emotional development, learning through games and sports also teaches children to fight with adversities. While engaging with children, the process used should be such that encourage and motivates them to participate and educators need to be respect and value voices of children. (b) Need for working more with adolescent girls (especially in rural areas and urban slums) on menstrual hygiene and their sexual reproductive health. Given the multi-dimensional benefits of sports and learning through sports, we as have to ensure that concept of learning through sports is promoted and sports reach out to every child. Communication and social mobilisation
Physical activity is fundamental to the holistic development of young people, nurturing their physical, social and emotional health. It is through participation in sports and physical education that young people learn about the importance of key values such as honesty, teamwork, fair play, respect for themselves and others and adherence to rules.
Sport and 'play' open up an opportunity for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing. It can be used as a vehicle to deliver educational messages to participants and spectators in some cases as well as to promote and develop other aspects of education such as school attendance and leadership.
Play-based programmes can tackle the underlying risk factors for crime involvement, early school leaving, and various other social problems that contribute towards delinquency by providing ‘at risk’ youth with access to social and job-skills training, education programmes and/or leadership programmes.
