On November 28, 2016 per the instruction of Staff Instructor Sergeant Donahue, the 63rd R.O.C was ordered to write a To-From on examples and the importance of being prepared or the instance of “preparation”. Reasoning on behalf of this To-From, the student officers at the Plymouth Police Academy were misinformed and were not completely prepared for a full bag inspection given to the student officers at approximately 1535 hours in the class room. With much gratitude, this student officer appreciates reasoning behind Staff Instructor Sergeant Donahue’s To-From assignments. Illustrating to the student officers, that each To-From that will be assigned through Staff Instructor Sergeant Donahue will have importance and meaning that we will take …show more content…
These are only some of many examples that can be discussed upon. First and foremost, Health and Wellness is a big portion of what is done on a daily basis at the Academy. The student officers knew that we all had to come into the Academy in shape to be ready to PT so it would limit our chance of being modified. Personally, I know that once this student officer had received the call on possible employment with the Bourne Police Department, I stopped my heavy lifting regiment which I had acquired from my days playing collegiate football and focused more on my endurance and cardiovascular strengths. From all my years playing sports I knew that on day one, you did not show up to get in shape, you showed up to keep in shape. An additional preparation matter that must be taken into daily consideration is your uniform of the day for the following morning. Making sure that it is free of lint and threads, pressed with no wrinkles, boots shined enough that you can see your reflection. The little things do not go unnoticed. Having your boots shined and your uniform in top shape shows that you spend time making sure that it was presentable. As a Police Officer your appearance is something of high importance and also in the Academy, it will again limit your chance of acquiring a class III infraction. Lastly in the Academy setting, having proper items in your duffle bag for a full bag inspection on an instant notice. It is important to have all of your items that is required in case of a change of schedule and we need certain equipment to carry out our duty as student officers. This bag inspection is correlated with working out on the street in real life

Officers require the subculture in order to survive a emotionally taxing and difficult job that few are brave enough to attempt. Some of the added value of this police subculture are but not limited to; perseverance, teamwork, support, empathy and the ability to cope with PTSD.…
