The college institutions are changing but are changing in the wrong way. Many colleges in this time are opting for a change in school policy. Colleges believe that banning the certain use of words is important to ending hate speech. This kind of thinking is very bad when your denying the students their rights. While colleges banning words that are known to be offensive is good, the banning of rudimentary words and unfair punishment is obviously, over doing it, and is holding back given right of freedom of speech.
Some will argue that there is nothing wrong with colleges, but this way of thinking is false. For example, the argument will be made that college institutions are protecting students from harmless ideas and words that may offend them. However, when a student is exposed to ideas and words unsightly, students learn how the real world is. When one is making an argument, one should consider the other side's perspective as well. All who seek more information such as students must know this to achieve more. Institutions are halting their student's progress academically, and creatively.

The use of the pronouns; he, she, her, and him have been used for centuries, and yet colleges forbids you and punishes you for using such words. Students in the past have been punished for the use of the words that have been deemed "unfit for school". An article from FIRE states "The college suspended Pryor for 21 months, until August 28, 2017, banned him from the campus in the interim, and prohibited him from receiving academic credit for courses taken at other institutions while suspended." This outcome was because of a simple joke made by a college student. Even though the joke was to poke fun at political problem, the student was suspended for 2 years. The harsh punishment is obscene for how minuscule the problem truly
