Few studies have analyzed open observation and learning of SCT, especially among at-risk groups. In one of the few samples of research, individuals learning of sickle cell, Treadwell, McClough, and Vichinsky (2006) conducted a focus group and surveyed individuals about their knowledge of SCT. This study was attempted in light of an observing that in 2001 fewer than 18% of families in southeast Texas who got warning that their newborn children were carriers of SCT took part in free SCT counseling.
