Film is one of media in English language teaching. Actually still has many media in English language teaching but film it is proofed affective just than any media due to it has audio visual’s character, where students not only hear but they can show or watch directly. According to statistic young people between 15 – 24 are active media consumer,more than 50% young people 9 – 24 like watching ( Nordicom – Sweden, 2009) From eyes student can memorize something quickly than hearing (Jane Sherman, 2003) not only that film can explore many of cultures from each country. Film is a useful media in English Language Teaching because it can encourage student to have critical thinking, increase student knowledge about culture and improve students’ speaking …show more content…
Culture is a part or element in film, student should be known about it. It is important for student because from culture student can know how to treat someone and how to respect with other people, this media can help student to know about social culture or custom from each country for example in the classroom teacher want to introduce some culture from American to students, teacher can use film to introduce it with choosing the content of film. After that teacher instruct the student to make a group discussion for discuss about the custom (Speech Act Realization, Rose 1997). Other example when students get scholarship to abroad automatically they need learn about culture at least from film they can know general characteristic from people in there, in order to they do not accident like shock culture. On the other hand culture can make student to know foreign people way to construct communication each other. To build or to construct communication with foreign people it can be hard if student don’t know little beat about foreign people background, student can felt confuse when they talk with them. Like Asian ways to communicated it very contrast with American people from film students can look directly where the differences both of Asian people and American people when they are talk. In brief, culture with film is related culture as an element in film and film as the media to show the culture, with film student can understand culture faster than they learn from some books. Communicated it regard with speaking skill in English Language
