An Essay On Why Extracurriculars Are Important

Why is are extracurriculars important? They are important because they make school a little bit more interesting. They teach us what core classes such as reading and math cant, they teach us important life skills and sometimes even influence our outlook on life. When i was in 3rd grade i was working on a project in art class. I kept messing up on something and it made me really frustrated because i wanted it to be perfect. Then my art teacher came up to me and told me it was ok; there are no mistakes in art. You just have to figure what how to make that smudge on your paper look like it belongs, then no one will know the difference but you. The trump administration is putting extracurricular classes in danger by cutting important funding. These are the classes that provide a creative outlet for students and teach them how to think creatively and analyze carefully. With this budget cuts in the public school system, schools in financially struggling towns will have a hard time time compensating. Therefore they will start cutting down on funding put towards extracurriculars to keep core subjects such as reading and math well funded. There are 3 main reasons why extracurriculars should be kept in school; the first is that it provides a healthy break from boring lectures and gives a more hands on learning experience. Some students can hear something once and always remember it, but that is far from being true about everyone. When classes become boring a break to go get a grade for a fun subject that doesn't seem to important can be nice. This break can increase motivation to do well, therefore increasing other things such as standardized test scores. Countries such as Japan, China, and Germany have visual and performing arts play an important role in their curriculum. Other countries who do not have art or music classes as often, are more likely to have lower test scores. This is because teaching arts such as music, dancing, and drawing- improve memory, motivation to learn, and self-confidence. It also increases critical thinking, because students are encouraged to carefully observe objects in art classes. Specifically, when the students that take part in extracurriculars do something that not only benefits them but the whole school. One example being rock and roll revival. RRR not only brings together many students for their natural talents, but it brings in money for the school. This money can be used for: new uniforms for sports, new textbooks, better lunch, and other school-related items in need. If funding towards extracurriculars is cut more then projects that bring in revenue for the school and encourage students to work together will never happen.

Overall art is important to the school system; it should not be taken out just so the football team can get new uniforms every other year while other sports teams are stuck in the same uniform. Extracurriculars should not make the school system suffer with or without it. It should only improve the curriculum by making it more interest, interactive, and beneficial to both the students and the school administration.
