Reflection Of My Expectations In My Writing Class

Improved Essays
My expectations in the class were to critically evaluate college-level material, draw conclusions from close analysis, analyze the structure of arguments, and evaluate the soundness and facts presented in the argument. My goals were to learn more about the English language and writing. And I hoped to improve my writing as the class moved forward. The resources used were mostly online. I searched for similar sources or analysis from different pages. I was able to find website that either expanded the subject or made the assignment more clear. Also, I used YouTube to look up some of the assignments because a visual will also assist me in understanding.

In addition, some class discussion has helped me in evaluating arguments in the class. Because you are a libertarian, you have brought up important issues. I was able to evaluate the soundness of your argument and to look up facts. However, I was not expecting to change your mind. I was mostly interested into drawing conclusions to my own beliefs and/or opinion. For example, " Americas Solution to Issues" my goal was to draw conclusion on how socialism may help the United States. And you felt that taxes were just a waist of your money(sorry if miss interpreted what you said). Furthermore, my goal was to present different benefits that socialism can contribute into, and how socialism can be used to accomplish those benefits. Also, I 've showed how the country has needed socialism since the beginning of American history. However, in "the flaws on taxes" I presented ways that the government can abuse the taxpayers money. I 've used your arguments to show how the government, at times, waste the people 's money. In "the state of mind", I was able to incorporate myself in examples of my own views and how I got to be who I am. This essay showed me my own fallacies. Of

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

Argumentative Essay Just imagine the horror on your face if you accidentally started a house fire and when you called for help you heard “ Sorry but the firefighters are on strike.” Could you image the fear along with anger you might be feeling at that moment, what if I said that could happen in real life; this is just one reason public service workers should not be allowed to strike. Public service workers help us in many ways, from saving our life, to maybe just delivering our mail. We need public service workers to survive, as it is a part of our natural habit.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

During these past nine weeks, my English skills have improved in my writing, my reading, and my speaking. Some goals that I have for the remaining of the school year include participating more in class, reading more life-changing stories, and mastering the art of writing elaborate essays. In class, I enjoy listening more than I like speaking out loud. I believe that if I try to immerse myself into the lesson, I will be able to learn a lot more than if I just sit in my chair and try to finish my homework in class so I do not have to do it at home.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

Many say that American high schools teach students to learn how to take standardized tests on writing, rather than actually prepare them for college. Therefore, most secondary students are entering college without an understanding of how to meet demands of college writing beyond the prescribed “standard five-paragraph essay.” Susan Fanetti’s “Closing the Gap between High School Writing Instruction and College Writing Expectations” examines the discrepancy between American high schools and their post-secondary counterparts in writing and English education through interviews with instructors from secondary teachers up to post-secondary professors. The results of this study, the common statements of English/writing educators over a diversity of backgrounds, as well as possible explanations for their complaints, contrast an educational experience held at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM).…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
