How My Freshman Year Changed My Life

I’ve always been the super shy girl; I was the one that was so scared of what people thought about her to the point where she’d hold back her dreams because she was too afraid. Freshman year changed the rest of my life for me. It wasn’t only the eye-opening year where I realized I’m more than my awkwardness; it was the year I did something about it. It was the year that I took the initiative to come crawling out from this outer shell that protected me from the harsh words that this earth has to offer, and I can’t say for a second that I regret it. Through a friend, I found this not-very-well-known business called Evolution Rock School. It was a place where they would form small bands of these kids, all with the same skill level, and teach them what it’s meant to be in a band, how to play, and how to perform. On one hand, I was so excited to the point where I couldn’t sit for even a second because I was too busy bouncing around the house, but on the other hand, the moment I walked through the door, the smile fell from my face and I could feel my face flushing because I knew that this was the moment where I would have to be something. This was the time that I could either play and flourish or run and hide; I chose to swallow my fears and dive right into new experiences. I stepped into the lesson room where I would learn each song we would choose for the semester, which was four months long, to meet my instructor. “Hey, I’m Justin,” a tall, blonde guy with a snap back and tank top on said to me with a big, cheesy smile.
