How does enculturation vary by ethnicity when observed in a diverse multicultural place such as Westminster mall? This paper describes my ethnographic work and study of the people I analyzed at Westminster mall on April 28, 2016. In the Cultural Anthropology book Welsch and Vicanco state that “Since the 1960’s cultural anthropologists have focused more intensively on the symbolic lives of people in all societies. I learned that there is many types of ethnicities and every ethnicity does particular things differently. Norms, values, and symbols come to play with ethnicity because ethnicity is what separates individuals from one another based upon their beliefs. There was plenty of people heading to the mall around the time I was getting there. There was people from all over the place, different ethnicities, race, and genders. As I am entering there are lots of families arriving and young teenagers. The mall is known for shopping and going to eat to restaurants with friends. So you can already picture how many people there is coming in and out of the shopping store, not to mention a big crowd of people having lunch with others. Majority of the people I came across from were probably young adults. They either come because they have a specific job inside the mall, come to hang out with their friends, family or they 're on a date. I noticed this couple who by the look in their eyes they were barely getting to know each other. She was hispanic, with long beautiful hair, brown eyes and short. On the other hand, the guy was Vietnamese, very tall, handsome, and with a huge smile, Meanwhile others were in a rush shopping, or eating this couple seemed to be having a good …show more content…
Its interesting to find out how ethnicity has to do a lot with how someone may act, speak, or socialize. My observations at Westminster mall show and proof that every person is different and it all comes from where they come from. In an environment where culture distinguishes who or how to be can either limit or benefit someone, although, it would depend on the situation that it 's occurring or what they 're about to
