Why Are Business Ethics Important To Me

Ethics within business are important because they reflect the overall values of the company and the individual. I acquired ethics in my life through my childhood, sports as well as through family and religion. Leadership, morality, and a deep care for others are among the most important ethics that have helped shape me. Success in business is no longer simply achieved through profits; rather an ethical practice, and ethical employees drive success on a much more meaningful and impactful way. Leadership has been instilled in me through the sports of football and rugby, which I have played for the majority of my life. I held a leadership position, team captain, every year I played football. As captain I learned even more that true leaders always lead by example. This is best explained by a personal experience, a football game in which I began arguing with a referee over what I considered a poor call. He then asked for the captain of the team, and as I was the only one on the field, I pointed to myself. He said “Well tell yourself to calm down.’’ That experience has always stuck with me; it is okay to be passionate about the game, or about the business, it is crucial to play or work within the limits of a leader. Moreso than just speaking to them, I displayed my work ethic and my commitment to the team. As a leader, I am able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses as well as others’, which is extremely important as the best person should be assigned to a job or a play.
