Why Equality Is Important

Mahatma Gandhi once proclaimed that “Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” If we are able to treat others as our equals and want to succeed, it will make our country greater. Equality has been a building block of this nation. Equality is the state of being equal in status, rights, and opportunities. Without complete equality our country is not going to improve. As a nation, we need to be able to want to succeed and have a fear of not succeeding. Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Frederick Douglass stated in a speech to the public “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” If we are not willing to treat each other as equals, our generation and future generations won't be able to help the country succeed because the minorities won't feel as though they are able to go anywhere so they won't try to succeed. Hanna Rosin in her TED Talk states that since we have started treading men and women as equals, the workforce has not been the same way as it was when her mother was her age. She also stated that equality greatly affects education. With equality we are better able to educate the children of the future so that we have the best doctors and scientist that can help improve the country.
Through treating other individuals as equals and not only wanting to succeed but also having the fear of not succeeding are the values that are most beneficial for the development of our country. Equality and success go hand in hand. If individuals could treat each other as equals, then the higher possibility that they will succeed, in which will help the nation as a whole succeed. The values equality and success need to be embraced by the current generation and future generations to come in order for the Great nation of America to grow and
