Enzymes are biological protein catalysts that encourage chemical reactions by lowering the activation energy needed for the reaction to take place. Once the reaction is complete, enzymes are left unchanged and able to move on to the next reaction. For this reason, enzymes have proven to be valuable resources for industries. A prime example of this is baby food. An enzyme called Trypsin is used to predigest proteins in baby formulas and supplements. This process is important, as Trypsin is naturally produced in the pancreas. However in young children, infants, their pancreas does not produce enough of this enzyme to properly digest protein. Without the ability to digest proteins, infants would be unable to receive necessary amino acids. Baby food companies can easily market foods for infants that provide the necessary amino acids, and claim their products are healthier and superior to rival companies. Scientist have recently discovered an enzyme that converts organic waste such as plant stems, leaves, paper, wood chips, etc into a biofuel. The enzyme that was recently discovered encourages the oxidation of polysaccharides found within the biofuels, and as the polysaccharides are oxidized and broken up, an energy can be harnessed from this and converted to a useable fuel. This is an innovative idea as the enzymes used are not consumed in the process of creating the biofuel. To further that idea, the organic waste would have already been previously used in its original design specification and would be at a point in its lifecycle where it is rendered without a use. The enzymes could be reused over and over again, and the organic waste would truly be recycled. This is one of the most environmentally sound ways in which a fuel could be produced. Industries that consume excessive amounts of fuels could replace their less or non-renewable fuel source for a more cost efficient and environmentally sound option. This new discovery has potential to change the way in which industries fuel their machines, that could be economically and environmentally beneficial to industries. This process holds the potential to become an everyday staple in industrial manufacturing, and currently is a crucial process for certain industries who are generating
