1. Introduction
Every year, a large number of buildings are built globally for residential, commercial and office purposes. The building construction industry experiences exponential growth in developing countries like India due to the growing economy and rapid urbanization. Globally, the building sector contributes to about 40% of the greenhouse gas emissions. Since buildings are responsible for a large percentage of GHG emissions, it is important to analyse their energy efficiency and make them sustainable. Figure 1. Contribution to GHG emissions
In order to analyse the environmental impact of a building, it is necessary to analyse the efficiency of the building materials used and the energy consumption.

Energy Performance using AccuRate Sustainability
The energy performance of the building was further evaluated using the AccuRate Sustainability simulation tool by Hearne Software, on the basis of the heating and cooling loads experienced by the building. The building’s window to wall ratio (WWR) is also taken into consideration for the analysis.
Entering the necessary building parameters and elements into the software, and running the simulation for 1 year we get the following results.
According to the simulation, the existing window to wall ratio of the building is 13.04 %. The heating load of the building is 78.9 MJ/m2 while the cooling load is 64.1 MJ/m2 (sensible) and 12.9 MJ/m2 (latent). The existing building construction is of simple brick masonry and reinforced concrete without any kind of insulation. All windows are single-glazed aluminium framed windows.

It should be noted that this simulation gives us a very general idea of the building’s energy performance as it only considers the heating and cooling loads on the building. Other factors such as lighting, electricity consumption and water supply are not considered. The readings in Table 5 are for the basic construction materials used in the
