As a nontraditional student or an adult learner, I am faced with the sobering statistic that only one third of adult students graduate from college after entering the program of their choosing (New, 2014, para. 1). Faced with this reality, it is crucial that the student set clear and attainable goals to support the end goal of acquiring a degree. To combat this staggering statistic and understand the risks and challenges ahead, I have identified three educational goals that I would like to achieve in my time at CCU.

It is up to me to decide how well prepared I will be for my entrance to the workforce. To facilitate this goal, I plan to take full advantage of all the resources and education that CCU will offer. Furthermore, my goal is to absorb as much information as time and resources will allow, ask questions and evaluate the information that I acquire against real life scenarios that I have encountered in the work environment. This I would like to achieve by applying myself in every course I am enrolled in, implementing what I have learned successfully and, learning from mistakes and failures. While pursuing this goal, however, it is important to keep a biblical perspective and balance with regards to true priorities. For example, I try to remind myself of this truth by keeping in mind quotes from biblical leaders like Ravi Zacharias, that state, “Sometimes the very presence of God is barred by our presuppositions and our intense and constant desire for triumph.” (Brainy Quotes website, n.d.). As a student, mother and, wife, I have a responsibility to myself, my family and, to God to make the most of every opportunity that comes across my path, taking into careful consideration how to distribute the precious commodity of
