Speech Therapy Reflection

Struggles come in any shape and color and I learned that a couple years ago when I found out that my son, at an early age, was referred by his pediatrician to an early intervention program. Seeing my son struggling to pronounce mom in Spanish at age of two, was devastating for me. However, as the time passed I noticed that the dedication that speech therapy had with my son, enlightening in me a desire to work with children that are struggling. Then, I realized that the best way is to go to the school and pursuit an education career in special education. Having as a background my sons’ speech sections, which were twice a week, I learned about the different type of disabilities that it is involve with language. Soon after, I started researching about anything relate to fluency which is what most immigrant encounter when they emigrate to another country. As a single mother I learning that educating my child is the most important gift I could give to my child. The researching was tremendously beneficial for everyone around my son, since my son speech improve considerably to the point that today he is no longer receiving speech therapy. I believe that every student has the ability to learn in their own way which as a future educator, it give me plentiful opportunities to put into practice all the knowledge that I am acquiring as a student. As a future educator I have to find the best way to meet my student’s needs. My students come from different background that requires a variety method of teaching them.
