3. Plenty of high fibre foods
4. Less use of salt
5. Energy and protein intake to meet growth requirements
6. Adequate intake of vitamins and minerals. (Taitz & Wardley 1989, Pg 46)
However in a recent article about children’s nutritional needs (Gudka & Suebert 2010) they depict that children especially have unique nutritional requirements. Not only must they meet their requirements for daily activity, but they must also receive all the nutrients they need to ensure that they grow and develop normally.
Much has been written about what the precise nutrients children need, an example Gudka & Suebert, (2010) explains that:
“Children need to obtain their nutrients from a well-balanced diet, which should include plenty of vegetables, legumes, fright and cereals, lean meat, fish, poultry, milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives and water. It should also be low in saturated fat and salt, and contain only moderate amounts of sugar”
There are plenty of guidelines for parents and educators to use to help their children eating a happy healthy diet.
