Nurses have a vast amount of duties in their field. One of the duties is performing physical examinations and taking health histories from the patients. Doing an initial evaluation of a patient is very important because it helps the doctor to know what could be wrong with the patient. The second duty of a nurse is educating the patient. Patient education is extremely important because if the patient does not properly understand their condition and treatment it could be detrimental to that patient. The third duties of the RN are administering medications, and providing would care when needed. The first level of nursing is the LPN. The title LPN does not require a degree, a diploma can be obtained within a year of training. “Licensed practical nurses (also called licensed vocational nurses in some states) help registered nurses and physicians by measuring vital signs, monitoring patient conditions (and changes in condition), and providing basic bedside care for sick or injured patients. This may include collecting samples for lab tests, administering injections or other medications, dressing wounds, bathing, and feeding. Some RNs work closely with physicians to aid in the creation of treatment plans, while others specialize in a particular area of treatment or patient demographic. If a nurse doesn’t take safely seriously it could have negative effects on themselves, the patient, and possibly other health care workers. If a nurse doesn’t wash their hands in between patients, they could contaminate another patient with an illness. Also not using standard precautions when dealing with patients could negatively affect everyone in the facility. Nurses need to make sure that they handle contaminated objects properly, and to dispose of needles in a safe manner. “The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project addresses the challenge of preparing future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which they work.
