Importance Of Diversity In College Admissions

Once I started the college search, one of the aspects I was looking for in a college was diversity. I made a vow to myself that no matter how great the school is academically, I wouldn’t go to it unless it made me feel comfortable socially. I never wanted to go to a school where the majority is overwhelmingly one race or ethnicity and the minority feels as though they are overshadowed or underrepresented. Schools that have diversity are schools that are open-minded and open to new people and ideas. By having a diverse community of students, schools allow students to immerse themselves in various cultures filled with different clothes, languages, foods, drinks, ideas, and much more.
One concept I believe that colleges should not implement in the college admissions process is the use of affirmative action and the use of fulfilling specific quotas in order to appease the public, making a college appear slightly more diverse, when in actuality, the college isn’t hardly any more diverse than …show more content…
I believe that I could contribute to that goal, by adding another voice to Queen’s student population and putting in my input to aid Queens in becoming a cosmopolitan university that is known for not only its academics, but its diversity and willingness to accept others. I believe that everyone has a right to be themselves, whether they are African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, man, woman, other, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Heterosexual, Homosexual, Pansexual, lower class, middle class, upper class, Republican, Democratic, disabled, etc. I believe that everyone should be given a chance, regardless of their personality, beliefs, genetic makeup, appearance, and background.
