Identifying and providing a dedicated space, a tracking sheet to monitor FTA patients, an emergency severity index (ESI) review sheet, and an algorithm for process flow are tools one would want to consider. According to Hanrahan et al. (2010), perfectionism, writer’s block, procrastination, lack of time, inability to get started, poor work habits, poor writing skills, and trouble with constructive criticism can also impede the dissemination process.
Disseminating information to Nursing Community
The same barriers identified in disseminating evidence to the ED stakeholders also exist in disseminating information to the nursing community. Ways to disseminate the information to the nursing community include journal articles, submissions to the hospital website, speaking at conferences, and networking with colleagues from different facilities. ED crowding is a national problem, and finding solutions that lead to better care is significant to the community and to improved nursing. Sharing positive results with other nurses who are facing the same challenges is crucial to a healthy nation.
