Schooling and culture in the society
Education or schooling is the is the act of learning where by knowledge ,life skills, the beliefs and values of a society are passed from one generation to another, this is in the formal context but schooling informally is what a person is trained by their guardians especially at home. Culture in this context stands for improving education, how one level of education relates to the other and to life in general. Education system has different cultures to better students at particular levels, to help modify those beliefs and knowledge together with skills acquired. People go to school to ensure the outdated things in cultures of a society are not surfacing to affect developmental programs of a society at show by Havinghurst et al (1962). Schools are supposed to make better members of a society by transforming their thinking and attitudes concerning life and other aspects. But currently the quest for education has pushed to the establishment of many colleges as indicated in the essay credentialing vs education by Jane Jacobs that the universities have erroneously branded themselves as an industry growing fast just for profit making (166), this is to show that the schooling culture is no longer producing quality work force from college as before. College systems have been turned into a profit making enterprise. This can match with a claim form Mohammed a respondent of mine that “………now college education has turned a commercial with so many colleges being started; a person need to graduate with good papers to stand competent in the job …show more content…
They believe that all students need is the degree in paper form and not necessarily the skills. The administrators for these institutions are reluctant to take steps in addressing these gaps; since they too have been blinded by commercialization of education .This has shifted the schooling culture, to a level where graduates with poor to no skills for working are produced. Once a person graduates, they awarded certificates that read great details about them and capabilities which are not through. The aim of this scheme is to ensure the students from this learning institution are not disapproved by merely looking at the documents, even after passing an interview, such students will display look capacity to perform assigned tasks. This will reflect the poor training culture that a student undergoes at the college level. Some tutors are high demoralized by students from attending classes since the turn up at times is extremely low. The few who attend are advised to come to class the next lesson which is very unfair with an excuse of a class being less than half full. This brings to a question as to why college is considered a place where a person has freedom to choose and act and that a person’s status should not affect the other, as to why tutor never show up in, low turn up classes.
