According to John Dewey, a curriculum which focuses at building critical thinking skills would advantage the individual learner, the community and the future development of society. Critical thinking is crucial in academics and learning process. Critical thinking is important in the process of building basic ideas and theories inherent in content which is called internalization learning process. Furthermore, critical thinking is essential in the learning process of application, whereby those theories are applied and implemented effectively and become relevant in real life. Students should learn critical thinking skills in order to solve problems since in their young age. The core of critical thinking is being reflective, responsive to information and not just passive receiving it. Good teacher educates critical thinking at every stage of education, including initial learning. We as the educators, this is our task to equip our students with the proper strategies and skills in order to handle problems and obstacles with critically and rationally …show more content…
However, by doing this, it will restrict their creative playing and thinking. Instead, teacher should give a sufficient creativity space for them to express. For example, in primary school, teacher can bring students for an authentic walk to real garden, then distribute all those needed supplies to create “my garden”. This will train the students to think critically and creatively as they might need to apply new information with their prior knowledge to consider how a garden looks like, how big it is, what will be in the garden, etc. Another example, in secondary school curriculum, arts and crafts - “Batik Painting”, teacher asks students to find a natural object (floral and fauna), based on the features of the object, students then have to draw a pattern on the fabric. Teacher should not provide them an example of batik drawing then let the students to do
