Expressive Activities
Life time line. Begin with a large piece of art block and some stickers, colors, markers, etc.
Have the Teenager place a sticker some where on the page and that is his birth. He writes down everything he remembers about his birth. The place, who was there, was it daytime or night time, etc. Then you ask him to place another sticker and tell him he is three and write what he remembers happened between birth and three – any new siblings, a move, began nursery school, etc. Continue with three-year blocks. When you get to age nine – go year by year. These are very important years.
Most people don’t remember much about their first six years. You can ask your teen to ask his parents, older siblings or …show more content…
Hurt children usually have sad memories. This might be too difficult for some teens who have been traumatized. Use your better judgment.
Creative Journaling
Teens love this activity, especially the girls, but often times the boys as well. Creative journaling is just what it says, being creative. This means to use different creative mediums to express your thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes, joys, concerns, etc. However, this is not the typical Dear Diary…. type journaling.
Take about 20 sheets or more of large block paper. Punch holes and tie together with some string or ribbon, have the teen choose the color. Then the teen decorates the cover however he or she would like. This is all about self-expression.
Use the blank pages for collage making, drawings, creative writing, etc. Here are some ideas.
1.The Me Collage – have the teen cut and paste pictures from magazines. He or she can also include original art drawings or doodling. He can use stickers, glitter add on sequence whatever he or she wishes. Afterwards invite the teen to share these different aspects of himself and how they are meaningful to …show more content…
They are universal and can be found all around us. They can be seen on stain glassed windows, plates, ceramic tiles. They are present in many religious art works. Islamic art has many mandalas, the Tibetan monks spend years creating sand blown mandalas. Sometimes we doddle them and don’t even know we are creating them. Hindus call them Yantras and after have them painted on the floor in front of their front doors as a welcoming symbol. l Several people use them for meditation because they are so relaxing to look at.
