In a community comprised of mostly Caucasian females with a high school diploma who are overweight, smoke, and are inactive for the majority of the time; this population is at high risk of the top causes of death. After conducting a windshield survey of my community, I noticed that many women were overweight. I also observed that there were not very many members involved at the local Young Men’s Christian Association. In addition, I noticed people were smoking in cars as I was driving through town. Hence, an appropriate nursing diagnosis would be: increased risk of cardiovascular disease among Caucasian females in a community northwest of Columbus, Ohio in Marysville, Ohio related to the mortality of demographic statistics in race (United States Census Bureau, 2015) and gender (City-Data.com, 2015) as evidenced by high sales of fast food meals and tobacco, physical inactivity, deficient knowledge of proper nutrition, inadequate number of fitness facilities, and a shortage of health care classes that offer education about heart disease. The epidemiological data mirrors the national trend of heart disease being the number one killer. Modifiable risk factors such as obesity, smoking tobacco, and physical activity are identified health problems of the community.
