Ciro's Reflective Essay: The Importance Of Communication

Communication with Ciro is going a lot smoother than I anticipated. Originally, I was worried that my supervisor would not speak much English and that it would be quite difficult for me to communicate with them. But, Ciro speaks English fairly well. Since English is not his first language, there are some obvious language barriers I have had to overcome. However, I believe we have decent communication whether it be over email or in person. I only meet with Ciro in person once per week, for two to three hours, and in these meetings, we discuss my task for the past week and go over what is expected of me for the upcoming week. I remember the first meeting being a little confused as to what Ciro was trying to say sometimes. Not only could I not understand the word he was saying, the tone he used also confused me. For example, we were browsing Etsy together and he pointed out one of his competitors and I said, “that wallet looks nice too!” Ciro immediately replied, “this wallet is disgusting,” and I did not know what to say. After a couple of seconds went by in silence, Ciro chuckled at me. I was a little …show more content…
Our communication when I am not there is all through email and also via Google Drive – where I share my work for the week with Ciro on documents that he can view, edit, and comment on. This type of communication is harder for me than in person. In person, I am can quickly ask Ciro a follow up question if needed. But, over email, he usually sends me long lists of tasks and sometimes I do not understand what he is asking me to do. I usually respond and ask for clarification, but I sometimes feel bad when doing so. I do not want to hurt his feelings that I get confused by a lot of his emails to me, but I would rather get it right than do the opposite of what he was asking. He is great about responding quickly so I can get my work

The art of persuading an audience to think a certain way about a specific topic is not as simplistic as many believe. Therefore, the persuaders often have to utilize certain strategies in order to strengthen their views, which in the end gives them the upper hand. Throughout this essay, I will be discussing how my previous essays directly correlate to one other in many different ways including the utilization of multiple articles, rhetorical strategies, and the use of ATCC (Author, Title, Credibility, Claim) and analysis as to why the essays contains these writing strategies. First off, in my essays one and three they both posses rhetorical strategies that are used to strengthen the authors objective and make their points more credible to the reader. In the memoir, the “Reading Like A Writer,” activity helped tremendously. The imaging exercises we performed in the class went a long way to brainstorming an idea about what to write about. Choosing a part was hard, but when I started, the story came out smoothly. I can now imagine myself in the audience’s shoes while reading a paper. The compare/contrast essay was a little difficult because I didn’t know what to write about.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

When compared to the type of communication used with the boss and manager, interactions with co-workers are the quite different. Although still using polite vocabulary, working with my co-workers uses a completely relaxed, informal form of communication, such as random jokes. It was also learnt that I was in a constant state of communication with my co-workers compared to that of my boss or manager, as they weren’t preoccupied with phone calls and paper work. Overall, through communicating with jokes and relaxed, everyday conversations the interactions between my many different co-workers and myself, creates a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. As most of my co-workers are also my friends, it was easier to get along and communicate with them compared to by boss.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
