Communication techniques vary from person to person depending on personal choices, behavior, perception and philosophy. Furthermore, communication style is groped in four important categories namely; Emotive, Directive, Reflective and Supportive. Differences in style are due to the level preference of for sociability and dominance. Sociability generally relates to friendliness and dominance relates to control or influence. In a reflective style, the preference for both sociability and dominance is low.

They usually are assertive and avoid shying away from exhibiting control over others. Since reflective communicator prefers a cooperative approach to interacting, they avoid teaming up with directives because they are not open to helping others by engaging in listening rather than controlling. Their focus is the need of authority rather than an accurate transfer of information. These kinds of communicators are less friendly to work with and they avoid hearing the feelings or needs of the other people. They mostly project serious attitudes, are task oriented, tend to communicate logically and cognitively without considering the interpersonal and social needs of others. They are very autocratic, arrogant and devoid of compassion and concern.
Referring to the behaviours demonstrated by each of the different communication styles (pg 94); can you identify those behaviours you tend to exhibit when you are stressed? Why do you think you behave in this fashion?

Reasons:
 Find it difficult to handle more than one problem at a time
 Can negatively self evaluate myself as stress affects our self esteem and self confidence
 Personal and past bitter experience can hinder effective decision making
 Creativity is reduced which means only few solutions or alternatives are viewed by us
