It 's an attempt to humiliate or put down the other person”. Being assertive helps to maintain a therapeutic nurse-client relationship by being able to clarify your own thought, making it relevant and share it at the right moment. You are respecting others by not questioning and being defensive when expressing your own ideas and opinions. Sometimes, it is really hard to not taking words from our clients too personal such as swear at you and calling you stupid because you do not have the answer for their questions but with the use of assertive communication, it helps me to act like a professional and that person would be feeling respected. I know it takes time to be a professional and eventually I will be come more capable to answer some of the questions that are commonly asked by most of the clients on L&D unit. I believe that the more experience I have gained, the better I will be as a successful
