Personal Narrative-Bafa Activity And Its Effects On Culture

I think the Bafa Bafa activity was a great experience for me in that it helped me to think more abstractly on culture. I learned that each culture is different and has their own set of norms. For instance, the alpha culture was more loving and approachable while the beta culture felt more uncomfortable with all the “touching”. I think this is a good experience for us educators in that it helps us visually see some differences amongst each person. I also learned that language can have a significant effect on each person. In both cultures there was a communication barrier that made it difficult to understand what each person wanted. Lastly, I learned a little more about the personality of each person. I think the two cultural groups showed on which side each person falls under. For example, there were people who felt unconformable with close contact.

He would later stand up and say no I would politely remind him if he does not make good choices he was going to move his clip down. After I told him that he quickly got started on his work. I think this was a good experience for me. I learned that having classroom management is critical. The student needs to know there is consequences.
One event I witnessed for the adjective ugly would be the reaction of one of my students. My CT has told me to try and translate to the students who do not know English very well. As I was speaking to the student another student reacted furious. He said, “Why does he not learn English like everyone else”. I was shocked by the actions of this student. I told the student it was fine and he was learning but still hasn’t mastered the language. I even suggested to the student he should help him and speak to him in English to help

When I was 9-10 years old I lived with my mom, dad, and sister in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. Lake Ariel was a small town where all you would see is corn, fields, and woods. We had lived in this house for two years and I had a good group of friends that I had met from school or extracurricular activities. I attended Western Wayne Hamlin elementary school and was in fourth grade. The school district was huge, covering six townships, but my school was small.…

I've always loved different cultures and tried to surround myself in as many as possible however I could. This was usually me trying to learn on my own from the internet, music and movies, but I was still missing that X factor that really made me indulge in other cultures. As soon as I walked onto Swarthmore's campus I felt that X factor. Sitting in the info session and taking the tour, I truly felt at home. The small diverse campus allows for people of completely different backgrounds and cultures to have real relationships that they might not have even noticed anywhere else in the world.…

I have always found my own cultural identity difficult to discuss. Bell’s discussion of a lack of a sense of cultural identity, the idea of no identity was a familiar feeling, at least initially (Bell, 147). This idea bothered me, in order to decipher my identity I looked to those of my ancestors. Cultural Identity exists, at least to me as an individual and a collective, in the present and the past. I was born in Australia, my father’s side has Scottish roots.…
