Introduction
When it comes to the difficulties of children being exploited internationally, the most common stories we hear commonly or publicized commonly are about children being trafficked into commercial sex work. This is clearly an issue that deserves attention. But, less well known and more widespread concern facing children is child labor. According to reports of United Nations, over two hundred million children of age between 7 to 17 years of age are working as laborers around the world. Carpets made in India have more demand because they are hand sewed and most of the carpet manufacturing companies use manual power instead of machine power to sew. Using small hands to sew carpets makes work much easier and help in increase the production. So this reason is making the owners of the carpet industry to hire children. But there are multiple challenges that UN has to face to approach further in this issue. For example, the conventions made by ILO are voluntary and it has little authority to enforce in the countries . UN just allows other countries to confront about human rights violations, but taking action in international level is not possible for UN. And UN doesn’t proceed further in combating this issues because it doesn’t want to damage their relationships with the particular nations and doesn’t want to affect the trade between two countries. But one thing that UN can do against countries suffering with child labor is, it has ability to set standards related to child labor and use public embarrassment, diplomacy and can even expulsion from the member states from UN . ILO and UN can criticize certain nations in combating child labor. For example, in the year of 2005 and 2006, UN had criticize the chocolate industry in Ivory Coast for employing children as laborers for manufacturing of chocolates . And also UN should be aggressive in implementing the conventions. For instance, Malaysia and Burma are one of the largest child labor suffering countries.
