The decision was further inspired when I came across Professor Dipak Kumar Mondal in Presidency College(University of Calcutta) and his words on the very first day of our class still resonate in my ears “Life is Chemistry, Chemistry is Life”. It is with these words etched in the core of my heart that I decided to integrate myself to the long list of devoted explorers who have made research in Chemistry as their vocation and I believe that the University of Utah would provide me with the ideal platform and exposure for helping me realise my …show more content…
I was assigned on the project entitled, “Pd-free Sonogashira Coupling: One pot Synthesis of Phthalide via domino Sonogashira Coupling and 5-exo-dig Cyclization”. It dealt with copper catalysed one pot synthesis of various substituted phthalides via domino Sonogashira coupling followed by 5-exo-dig cyclization. The work has been published in RSC Adv., 2014, 4, 42604-42607 [DOI: 10.1039/C4RA07639G]. I was so fascinated and captivated by the work that I decided to pursue my one year thesis project under the guidance of Professor Jayanta Kumar Ray. Currently I’m working on my thesis entitled, “Pd-catalysed annulations of internal alkynes for the synthesis of Indene and its derivatives”, which mainly deals with the development of new synthetic methodologies for complex Indene derivatives using palladium catalysis. A part of the work has already been communicated to related Journal. Apart from developing experience through the research projects, I am prodigiously thankful that I could develop a plethora of theoretical concepts obligatory for surmounting the hurdles we face in our research. I am profoundly thankful that I came under the guidance of several professors who have motivated me for a research career in the field of Organic Chemistry and in making me
