I was fortunate in that, during my sophomore year of high school, I took a United States Government course taught by an amazing woman. Cara Putman is a published author and a lawyer in Lafayette. She had a passion for politics, and her passion was contagious. I took her US government class in 2012-2013, just in time to catch the tail end of the 2012 Presidential election. From that first election I was hooked. That’s when I decided to major in political science.
My parents were a little skeptical of this life choice. My father, especially, had always wanted a child to become an engineer. I knew a double major might help sooth their fears, but I had no idea what else I wanted to major in, until I met Stephaney Bauer. I choose this minor more whimsically, after reading an article on common majors accepted to law schools. As I looked at history minor requirements, I saw that a minor in history would only require me to take four classes, many of which satisfied College of Liberal Arts core classes. For now I have worked history into my four year plan, but I am not dead set on that course of action. More recently, I have considered a minor in philosophy. I am currently enrolled in one philosophy class, and I plan on taking a Principles of Logic class too, as I have heard that class is helpful in preparing for the Law School Admission
