Car Radiator Problems

Good Essays
Car radiator is an integral part of the engine. The primary function of a radiator is to keep the engine cool. If you are facing radiator issues in your car, there is nothing new about it. As radiator problem is a common phenomenon associated with cooling system malfunctioning.

However, you should not get complacent due to the nature of the problem. In fact, if the issue is not taken care of immediately, then it will affect the engines & in the long run the performance of the car gets degraded.

It is important to recognize the common radiator issues as it will help us in identyfing the problems, and take corrective measures.

Working of a radiator

The radiator's main function is to keep the temperature of the internal combustion engine at

The temperature of the coolant is cooled down with the help of a fan, and the fluid goes back into the engine through a lower entry tube.

Consequently, the engine cools down as the process repeats constantly.

Issues in radiator

Here are some common problems associated with radiator malfunctioning-

Thermostat failure

A faulty thermostat will always lead to engine overheating. As the thermostat allows the coolant to circulate inside the radiator. If the thermostat gets clogged due to debris build up or is stuck in the closed position, eventually, the coolant also gets blocked.

The thermostat is not part of the radiator, but it functions like a valve that allows the amount of coolant that should flow into & out of the radiator. Thus, it helps the engine in opoerating under normal temperature.

Malfunctioning thermostat leads to rapid increase in the temprtature of the engine.

Radiator leaks

Leaks in the radiator is caused due to a faulty or ruptured hose pipe. Hose pipes are prone to wear & tear & should be replaced from time to time. The hoses link the radiator to the engine & allow the coolant to flow in between

The most common way to detect the leak is to look under the car, and if there is the presence of puddle or liquid beneath the car. Then there is a leak, which needs to be fixed immediately.

Rusting

Radiator is made of metal & as oxidation happens due to the constant liquid flow, there is susceptibility of rust forming in the radiator. Moreover, old coolant looses its corrosion-inhibiting properties, allowing rust to form and consequently cause damages.

The easiest way to findout the radiator rusting, is by checking the color of the coolant. If the coolant color is brown, then it indicates the radiator has developed rust from the inside. If the radiator is not replaced immediately, then in the long run it will develop holes, which can lead to critical problems.

Vehicle overheating

The engine overheating directly points that something is amiis with the radiator. Overheating may be caused due to low coolant level, broken auxiliary fans, ruptered hoses that leads to coolant leak, or a damaged radiator is the cause behind vehicle

Temperature of the water: temperature of the water can be harmful for the pipes. If the temperature is high, it can be a factor for corrosion on the wall of the pipelines. Velocity of the water: immoderate flow of water in pipelines or instant twists in pipes can cause destruction of pipes and corrosion. Recommendations: Follow prevention methods and be careful always to remain away from the problems, so that we do not have to take the help of cure, as prevention is much better than the alleviation. Rust can be the major factor for the blockage of pipelines, so they must be well-cleaned in order to make them function properly.…

While the electrical components can spark and ignite fuel vapours, liquid fuel does not explode up to a limit and so submersing the pump in the tank is one of the best places to put it in. In most of the cars, the fuel pump sends a constant flow of fuel to the engine and the fuel not used is returned to the tank. This too reduces the possibilities of the fuel boiling as it is never kept close to the engine for very…

Engine Knocking or Pinging The wrong kind of fuel, specifically gasoline with too low of an octane rating can cause an engine to knock or ping. Modern cars have knock sensors, which mitigate the problem, but this part may need to replacement if the sensor has failed. If you suspect the problem is low octane, you can add octane booster to eliminate the problem. Other causes of engine knock could…

However, once you get home drain and refill the system with coolant. Also, the coolant had to go somewhere, so check the hoses for any punctures or kinks that are preventing flow. If your engine thermostat is high and you are experiencing a drop in engine RPM’s, check your prop shaft. Traps can get tangled and wrapped around the prop, creating excess friction. A bad thermostat can restrict the flow of coolant even once the engine is warm.…

It is important to check the oil as if it is low machine parts will start to wear out. Decarbonizing: As the oil in a two stroke engine is mixed it means that carbon deposits form more easily and these will need to be cleaned more often. Carefully remove the cylinder head without damaging the seals nor the head itself. Use gasoline or a similar chemical to remove the carbon build up. Clean and remove the grease from the cooling fins.…

As air flows to the after cooler, it will pass through a check valve that is designed to prevent any backflow, ensuring that air continues to compress and fill your tank. Backflow will damage your equipment and cause a major failure of the air compressor. Many compressor especially reciprocating compressors are fitted with pulsation dampeners, and vibrations caused by the air compressor when it uses suction and opens discharge valves. Pulsations can reverberate through the piping system, and these vibrations will make it difficult for your tools and machinery to measure air pressure and use it…
