Car Radiator Problems

Improved Essays
Car radiator is an integral part of the engine. The primary function of a radiator is to keep the engine cool. If you are facing radiator issues in your car, there is nothing new about it. As radiator problem is a common phenomenon associated with cooling system malfunctioning.

However, you should not get complacent due to the nature of the problem. In fact, if the issue is not taken care of immediately, then it will affect the engines & in the long run the performance of the car gets degraded.

It is important to recognize the common radiator issues as it will help us in identyfing the problems, and take corrective measures.

Working of a radiator

The radiator's main function is to keep the temperature of the internal combustion engine at

The temperature of the coolant is cooled down with the help of a fan, and the fluid goes back into the engine through a lower entry tube.

Consequently, the engine cools down as the process repeats constantly.

Issues in radiator

Here are some common problems associated with radiator malfunctioning-

Thermostat failure

A faulty thermostat will always lead to engine overheating. As the thermostat allows the coolant to circulate inside the radiator. If the thermostat gets clogged due to debris build up or is stuck in the closed position, eventually, the coolant also gets blocked.

The thermostat is not part of the radiator, but it functions like a valve that allows the amount of coolant that should flow into & out of the radiator. Thus, it helps the engine in opoerating under normal temperature.

Malfunctioning thermostat leads to rapid increase in the temprtature of the engine.

Radiator leaks

Leaks in the radiator is caused due to a faulty or ruptured hose pipe. Hose pipes are prone to wear & tear & should be replaced from time to time. The hoses link the radiator to the engine & allow the coolant to flow in between

The most common way to detect the leak is to look under the car, and if there is the presence of puddle or liquid beneath the car. Then there is a leak, which needs to be fixed immediately.

Rusting

Radiator is made of metal & as oxidation happens due to the constant liquid flow, there is susceptibility of rust forming in the radiator. Moreover, old coolant looses its corrosion-inhibiting properties, allowing rust to form and consequently cause damages.

The easiest way to findout the radiator rusting, is by checking the color of the coolant. If the coolant color is brown, then it indicates the radiator has developed rust from the inside. If the radiator is not replaced immediately, then in the long run it will develop holes, which can lead to critical problems.

Vehicle overheating

The engine overheating directly points that something is amiis with the radiator. Overheating may be caused due to low coolant level, broken auxiliary fans, ruptered hoses that leads to coolant leak, or a damaged radiator is the cause behind vehicle

Calorimetry is using a tool, the calorimeter, which insulates the system from the environment. This allows for the changes of temperature to be observed with minimal heat loss to the environment. Calorimetry allows for the heat of the solution to be calculated since the heat capacity of the calorimeter is known and the change in temperature is observed. The heat capacity is the ability for the container to retain the heat the is produced or absorbed without allowing for the outside environment to impact the reaction. This closed system allows for easy calculations where q_rxn+q_water+q_calorimeter=0. This is important to the lab that the total heat lost and gained must all equal zero. It would be hard to calculate how much heat was lost in the world by the experiment, so isolating the system to the calorimeter allows for the…

Inadvertent Hypothermia is a prevalent disease that has been observed to bring about adverse effects. It is a condition in which the body lacks the ability to maintain the optimal temperatures required of the body. It has harmful impacts on the health of individuals that leads to the patients incurring a lot of costs in terms of medical care associated with it. Many of its effects include impaired immune function, cardiac complications, thermal discomfort, and increased incidence of wound infections among others (Hegarty et al., 2009). The disease requires a lot of medical attention from nurses and medical personnel.…

Temperature: On those warm days where the heat is unbearable, you'll want to turn on your AC and feel the cool air blowing on you. When your AC is broken, there may be a problem with the temperature. The air blowing on you may be cool, but not as cool as it should be, or it could be hot air instead of cool. Before you can enjoy the cool air and be comfortable in your vehicle, a repair will likely be needed.…

The loss of coolant caused an increase in core temperature that eventually ended up melting fuel and this leading to the spread of a radioactive material that formed a hazardous hydrogen bubble that threatened to cause an explosion contaminating the building and perhaps cause a breach of containment. To avoid this explosion an undetermined amount…

The water kept rising and wasn’t being shut off do to yet another technical issue that other instruments were going through sending false readings to the people who were now seeing that the reactor core was not fully covered in coolant so they kept a high water pressure which caused the coolant to flow even more. As water started seeping out the valve workers were finally capable of manually overriding the coolant tanks. With the pressure being stopped from the tanks they were at the right water pressure to cool down the core, at least they thought. There was an unexpected loss of pressure from the water seeping out the still opened valve causing even more pressure to be lost. This small island just off the coast of Pennsylvania had just thought to escape what could have been a catastrophic event. Little did they know that their devices used to give readings on the heat of the core. Now that the core had lost all the cooling water through the open valve it started over heating. The core’s temperature got to the point of which metal pipes that hold the nuclear energy they were making started melting. Nuclear energy, thought to be a great discovery only side effect is radiation poisoning, now starting to be released into the air on Three…

A NASCAR car has 8 cylinders just like a normal car and in the each cylinder is a space where piston movement occurs. In an article written by Brian Rohrig he writes “The faster the pistons move up and down, the faster the crankshaft rotates. And the faster the crankshaft rotates, the faster your car goes.” The crankshaft allows the tires of the car to spin, so if the pistons are moving faster the crankshaft operates more effectively and so does the car. The piston movement is the most important part of the engine because of what it allows to happen. Without the reaction taking place quickly the crankshaft would not operate as fast and the tires would not move as fast. Piston movement is so important because of what it controls. In an article written by Brian Kennedy it writes “A spark plug makes a tiny electric spark which ignites the gasoline and air causing the piston to move. The piston’s movement is linked to the wheels, causing them to turn.” Before the gasoline is ignited the piston shrinks in size and the gasoline is compressed. The compressed gasoline is then ignited which allows the car to be able to travel. The piston movement reaction is a very quick process that moves at a rapid speed. Piston movement is a very important part of the engine of a NASCAR car because of what it…

This type of water system comes through the house through the rising main. Then the water gets separated up to a 24 hour storage cylinder, from here is where the water gets sent back down to all of the appliances that require it apart from the kitchen sink. This is because the kitchen sink is fed water by a direct water source due to it being used for food prep. An advantage of using indirect cold water is if the main supply gets cut off you still have the 24 hour storage cylinder to supply your water until it gets fixed. But a disadvantage is that it is more expensive to install and requires a lot more…

As the body starts to get overheated, thermoreceptors in the skin send messages to the brain that the body is getting too hot. The hypothalamus in the brain then coordinates a response by sending signals to the sweat glands to initiate sweating. Simultaneously, a nerve message is sent to the blood vessels in the skin causing them to dilate. As a result of vasodilation, dilated blood vessels increase blood flow to the surface of the skin causing it to appear redder. The sweat droplets on the surface of the skin evaporate, cooling the skin and the blood flowing beneath it. The blood returning to the body is now much cooler.…
