Importance Of CAS Experience

One of the most important IB Learner Outcome for me was outcome number one: an increased awareness of my own strengths and my areas of growth. One of the most important things in life is to always keep learning and acquiring knowledge about oneself - it is extremely important to know yourself and your strengths and weaknesses. This learner’s outcome ensured that I was aware of how I was growing as an individual throughout these two years and that I was aware of my strengths and the areas that I needed to work on. Through this learner’s outcome I learned more about who I am as a person and what I need to improve on. For example, as I went on a camping trip to Lake Alouette as a part of Cadets, I participated in many physical activities which …show more content…
As a part of this project, it was our group’s goal to raise supplies for as many underprivileged children in Tanzania as possible, so that they have the ability to go to school and gain an education. In this project, we collected and fundraised for school supplies including pencils, pens, erasers, and sharpeners. We collected these supplies throughout three neighbourhoods and fundraised by baking brownies and cookies. After this, we were able to make 50 bags and each bag had seven pencils, two erasers, one ruler, four pencil crayons, four markers, and two pens. This project was such an amazing project as it allowed us to raise enough supplies to support the education of 50 underprivileged children living in poverty. Because of these supplies, these children will have the opportunity to invest in an education and have an opportunity to raise out of poverty. These supplies will allow each child to work their way to a better future. This is why this project is such a memorable experience, as we were able to help individuals create better futures for themselves. This is very valuable for me as I feel that our group allowed these children to gain an education and be able to educate others. This creates opportunities for others as well, as these students can assist other individuals to gain an …show more content…
Are there any activities you see yourself continuing with? I definitely see myself continuing many of the activities that I have entering for CAS. Some of the activities that I will be continuing include being a math and English tutor, working with the children at the art gallery and being a part of cadets. Being a Math and English tutor has truly helped me learn more about myself and also the society that I live in. As I tutored the children, I realized the importance of learning and education in the world. I really enjoyed helping the children learn more about their education and truly understand the concepts that they had trouble in. I would like to continue tutoring the children on weekends and perhaps throughout the summer. Further, I would like to continue volunteering at the Surrey Arts Centre and this allows me to work with children and help them with arts and crafts. I would really enjoy working at the summer art camps this year as I really like working with children and allowing them to express themselves through art. Art is important in life as it allows individuals to express themselves in their own ways. I would like to get a job which involves working with children when I am older because this is something that makes me truly happy. Moreover, I am also continuing cadets as I really enjoy learning about citizenship and being able to work on my physical strength. Cadets has allowed me to develop my leadership activities through learning new skills such as, hiking

Summary I gain a lot of insight and learning from going through the process of identifying a student, getting to know them, administering a variety of assessments, writing about and interpreting the test results, researching interventions and supports, and making recommendations based on all of the information collected. My two main takeaways are that I had some difficulties with Woodcock Johnson IV assessment and that I significantly changed my mind about the pedagogy of math. I struggled with administering and interpreting the Woodcock Johnson IV. While I was administering the test it was difficult to just follow the script and not prompt the student to think about the question longer or review their work before they had a final answer.…

In the book, “The Irresistible Revolution,” the main idea of the book was how to live a “true Christian lifestyle” which is based off of loving all of God’s humans, Christian or not, as well as God’s environment. In our class discussion of chapters one and two, a recurring idea is how some people who consider themselves Christians in church can act like good and righteous people helping others on Sundays, then turning around on Mondays and blowing off everyone else, just as long as they get the name of being a Christian in a church, rather than living and following the true Christian ways. In this book, the author also discussed that is some situations, you can find more people who live a Christian life lifestyle in a sewer than in a church.…

For my service project, my group went to the DC Diaper Bank to learn about the existing problems that many low-income families face, as well as to assist the drive in any way we could. When we first got there, we watched an introductory video that informed us about just how much support families in the area need. I was stunned to learn that forty-four percent of children under that age of three live in low-income families in the DC area. The parents of those children are struggling financially to make ends meet, and individuals in the community felt compelled and created the DC Diaper Bank. The video also informed us that babies who do not have clean diapers are more likely to cry more, which has an extremely negative impact on the development of their body and minds.…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

Statistics flashed across a screen, solemn music accompanied a slideshow of scenes showing desolate landscapes and impoverished communities. On screen, a mother held her starving child and a group of girls in mismatched clothes gathered water from a muddy well. We watched a presentation given to us before the service event and listened to the instructor as he described the conditions in other countries. He showed us photos of the people we would be helping during the mission, communities that were in desperate need of donations, supplies, and most importantly, food. The Lifeline food packing mission was my first service experience, which was the case for most of the students who participated, and it as also one of the first glimpses we had of just how bad the situations are in countries where starvation and malnutrition are so common.…

More than one billion children in the world are deprived of at least one of the basic necessities. According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) "children living in poverty are those who experience deprivation of the material, spiritual and emotional resources needed to survive, develop and thrive, leaving them unable to enjoy their rights, achieve their full potential or participate as full and equal members of society". Poverty limits children's opportunities for education, puts them at risk for health problems and increases the likelihood that they’ll be subjected to child labor or early marriage. Poor children are hungry and at risk for malnutrition, underdevelopment and stunting, which can have serious health consequences later…

“Nothing ever goes my way!” we, as teenagers, sometimes like to think. I, myself have been caught thinking this same way when I desire something, whether it be about a tangible item or just a chance to hang out with some friends. Upon completing my senior project, my eyes were wide open. I have always been aware that there are homeless and impoverished people in Sacramento, but witnessing a large number of less fortunate children in one setting, whom all feel that “having a little” is the way of life was a bit appalling to me.…
