I don’t have a specific plan for the number of hours I will complete this semester in my project. I know I will definitely meet the minimum 20 hours required, and I expect I will likely end up with 80+ hours. It will really depend on how things play out. The RSO is up and running now, but things are a bit behind what I would like them to be, and we are trying to set up general member meetings, will establishing budget and filling out the requirements to be a new RSO.

We are trying o use each foundational element of civic engagement throughout our project; leading, serving, giving, and associating. We don’t want to just come in, do our job, and leave. They help provide instruments and information about screenings in our region of SW Florida. The Florida KidSight Foundation is the main statewide non-profit promoting vision screenings in preschool children. They provide referral tracking and support after the screenings by Lions Clubs around the state. Many of The Early Learning Coalitions in Florida provide these vision and hearing screenings. Several charities including Lighthouse of SWFL and Collier County, United Way, and Florida’s Vision Quest are currently striving to work together toward the same goal of helping children have access to the basic rights of hearing and seeing by providing doctors, information, and equipment.
