Personal Narrative: A Career As A Nurse's Aide Certification

Improved Essays
Growing up in a family like mine where nothing is good enough is very tough. You would think having a certification as a nurse’s aide by the age of sixteen and already starting on your associate’s degree would make them very proud. However, there is still more that can be done they will always say. When I first found out about nursing I had no interest. I always wanted to become the doctor and earn the “big bucks”. Money was always everything to me. So this past summer when I had the opportunity to take my Nurse’s Aide Certification I jumped on the bandwagon because it meant a step up from a dietary aide. I started the class thinking that this was just a minor job and I wasn’t going to be doing much with the residents. Boy was I wrong! I had …show more content…

So instead of following the doctor around and making phone calls I stayed behind with the CRNA, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. This was an experience of a lifetime! I was able to learn so much about how to give anesthesia and why the body functions the way it functions under anesthesia. I made some connections through the hospital if I ever wanted to come back and observe I am always welcome back. This meant a lot to me, because the people I became the closest to were the nurses. They welcomed me with open arms and still conveyed their jobs of keeping people alive while bettering the patient. This became my dream, to be able to better a person mentally or physically and still be able to keep them alive. With anesthesia this is a very thin line to walk on. The gases they use and the instruments that are used are very deadly if used improperly. I want to be this nurse to walk this line and keep you alive. I want to be as strong as my grandma while she had cancer all throughout her body and still went to work everyday to help others just by passing meds and giving them

This path seems perfect for me and what I want to accomplish. I hope that someday I will be able to help someone as much as that CRNA helped my mom. I hope that someday I will change the lives of people who are in pain.…

Despite some difficulties in my early college years, I still have the same passion to fulfill my dreams.…

I feel that I can make a difference in each patient’s life that I encounter, it might be as small as getting a wheelchair if they seem flaccid or weak, a blanket if they are cold, something to drink or just talking to a patient to get their mind off pre-surgery. I look forward to volunteering each week. The most rewarding day by far was being able to witness a nurse giving CPR to a child choking. She saved his life. I would want to someday be able to be able to save a life, not for the recognition but because I want to make a difference.…
