Secrets to Living a Balanced Life
Have you ever been on a circus, watching a tightrope walker? Obviously, the only thing he’s stepping on is a rope. As he shifts his body forward, his hands are gripped tightly around a balancing pole. He has to walk from one end to the other. Above that, he is also balancing another pole on his chin and on the top of that pole is a plate.

Just like the performance of a tightrope walker, life is very much a balancing act. If things start to drift off balance, we’re only just a step away from a fall. Carrying our purpose, we’re trying to move forward to reach our goals, all while trying to maintain the different elements of our lives in balance.

It is about being whole and complete and there should be a sense of harmony. You don’t feel that your heart and mind are being pulled too hard in any direction.

Your life is composed of vital areas including health, family, social, work, relationships and more. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend equal amount of time on all of these on a daily basis, but in the long run, you should be spending right amount of quality time in each area. You will then feel that your life is well-balanced.

Balance is about taking appropriate action when situations say so as to maintain equilibrium. Neglecting even just one area in your life can sabotage your own success. For example, if you often get sick, your work and financial aspects will suffer. If you’re too focused on your work, your health and personal relationships will suffer.
How Do I Live a Balanced Life?
Our bodies and minds can only handle so much. If we lose command of our own life, we wouldn’t be as effective as we’re supposed to be. The good news is that if you’re being proactive about balance early on, you can effectively navigate your own life. Here are some great tips on how you can live a balanced life:

Stay committed in healthy lifestyle to become fit and energized. Being healthy helps you enjoy life. You also look great and feel great and you’re less likely to get sick.
Get Enough Sleep
If you’re sleep-deprived, most probably you wouldn’t work to your capacity. Get at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep at night. We need sleep to restore the energy we’ve lost during the day and prepare us for the challenges we’ll be facing on the next day.
Learn to Say No
Are you overloaded with tasks your boss gave you? It only takes a two-letter word to solve things – “no”. Learn not to accept new tasks especially if they don’t advance your career. Don’t feel guilty whenever you decline an offer. You might even open doors for another colleague who needs some work to do.
Reach Out to Family and Friends
Find time to reach out to at least one friend or family member. Do this preferably in person, not just electronically. Make plans to go to movies or have dinner together in a famous restaurant. This way, you’ll have something to look forward to after a long workweek.
