Time cannot be bought, replaced, or reclaimed; wasting someone’s time is one of the most disrespectful things you could do to someone. Time is the most significant need across humanity, and investing time into something is powerful. A major learning outcome for me up this point of my journey of seeking membership for the Alpha Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is respecting peoples’ time. This opportunity is one that the fraternity brothers, chapter officers, chapter members, and candidates are investing. This investment should not be taken for granted, especially as it pertains to not only familiarizing ourselves with the organization’s and chapter information but being able to express it in a through and correct manner. My lapse of attention to detail yesterday is inexcusable and utterly embarrassing. Not only did I not display an attention to detail, but also I displayed a lack of preparation of my moment to connect with a distinguished and accomplished brother of the fraternity on the local and regional level. I understand that my lapse not only severely damaged the reputation of myself, but most importantly the reputation of my fellow candidates, and Director of Intake, Mr. Brandon R.

The motto of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated is “Friendship is Essential to the Soul”. For as long as I can recollect, my mother has always stressed to me the importance of uplifting others and immersing people in love and companionship; she also taught me how pivotal it is for my well being to also receive it in return. Therefore, this motto to me is more than just a motto, but it is indeed a lifestyle. Throughout my life I have faced strenuous predicaments, but in every situation the solution to my problem was never money nor any other tangible item, but it was the people in my life that were the remedy to all misfortune I had ever stumbled upon. For this is why I do not take the power of friendship lightly nor for granted.…

Reflecting on Saturday afternoon’s 2nd evaluation, I did not perform up to the standards Alpha Kappa Psi expected of me. Under the pressure of the panel, I did not think clearly before giving two names of ex-line brothers I felt were the best on the line. I started to list the rest of the line in order until eight other names were given and I was asked a different question. I should have listened to the PM team in a previous paneling where they explicitly told us there are no best or worst line brothers. We are only as strong as our weakest link and if someone is struggling, it is up to the rest of the line to offer help and guide them back in the right direction.…

In a business sense, attention to detail essentially means focus that is directed on the multiple small tasks or concerns that make up a larger task or concern. It is highly necessary for all employees in almost any job field to gain and maintain this skill. For example when applying for a job in the civilian world most civilian citizens will explain their skill of attention to detail as a great reason to add them to a company. Not only is this an opinion of almost anyone but definitely true. Even the duties that we consider to have less importance carries the requirement for the basic skill of attention to detail.…
