Throughout the past two months I feel that I have grown a lot in my studies. The first week or so I was anxious about classes and meeting new people and attempting to adjust to living on my own for the next 4 or so months. I feel that I have adjusted well and am not so nervous about attending college anymore. I feel that I have achieved some good things in my academic career while attending Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. I am taking Calculus 1 this year and am doing well. Although I had previously taken it in High School and done decent, I did not have the grade that I wanted in High School. As of right now I have a 100 average in Calculus and I am extremely proud of that because I now completely grasp everything that is being taught. I feel that having taken it in High School has definitely …show more content…

I usually enter them into my phone so that I will know what homework I have so that I don’t forget about it. I feel that this is the biggest obstacle that I have faced thus

Before college I could’ve easily convinced myself that I knew everything I needed to know about life and I was the person I’d be for the rest of my years to come; I was wrong. In high school I was known as the student who never needed to study in order to get good grades, unfortunately that changed once I entered college. College opened my eyes academically, socially and more importantly it introduced me to different aspects of life and myself. Everyone tells you that college is a different experience, but you never really understand until you enter college yourself.…

I was born in Germany with a German mother and an American father. The benefit of being born into a German family and living in Europe for the first ten years of my life was the greatest privilege I experienced throughout my sixteen years of living. However, my father was in the military at the time causing for a slight pressure to always be prevalent for the duration of my younger years. This mainly revolved around the fact that my sister was able to grow up in Germany and I wanted that same opportunity. Soon after these aspirations were formed, they became mere dreams that never would be fulfilled because my dad was given orders to either move to Mississippi or Oklahoma, which both deemed to be the middle-of-nowhere.…

During my first year at Spelman College, I have not necessarily acquired any new writing skills. However, I have definitely sharpened three imperative writing skills, including: forming my ideas, reasoning, and synthesis (based on readings and discussions) to develop the content of my essays, integrating sources and evidence that corroborate my beliefs, and making my writing more clear and concise. In addition, I still stand in the process of learning to write well under the pressure of time constraints. To illustrate my points, At Spelman, I have been required to read and discuss for every single class I have enrolled in.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

All it took was three days. Three days for my view on life, the way I live, and how I view others to change. Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…
