Importance Of Assessment And Evaluation

Assessment and Evaluation is the final on-line course required to complete the certificate of Teaching and Training Adults. It involved learning methods of assessment and evaluation in order to determine if learning has been successful. I first thought that evaluations for adult learners aren’t important but I now realize that it is important to know if the content has been delivered successfully. Evidence of learning can only by determined through evaluation measures. Evaluation is not just for the learners it is just as important for course designers, directors and instructors so they can improve the instruction delivery. All the course participants were respectful of one another and everyone was able to add to forum conversations with relevant …show more content…
I learned the most, not from my Evaluation Strategy, but from having the opportunity to mark my peer’s Evaluation Strategy. I was determined to the best job marking the paper so I meticulously went through every detail. I realized it wasn’t about giving her a grade but about showing ways that could really improve the assignment. I wanted to ensure I was not misleading and right with my advice. Improving teaching methods is an ongoing process that requires the whole learning community. I enjoyed the whole peer review process since it involved seeing the work my co-learners were producing and also sharing different ways to improve our assignments. It is a lot different than collaborative works, that I have done in the past, because usually everyone does a chunk of the work and the others usually only correct for grammar errors. Peer review involved giving real constructive criticism that would affect the other person’s standing, so I had to make sure my recommendations were …show more content…
I now know that if you ask good questions you will get good answers. My initial pre-assessment questions were too vague and I would not have gotten the answers I expected. I wanted to find out about my learners background knowledge but I might have only gotten one word or short answers. I also like the fact that the pre-assessment questions help prepare the learners for what is expected in the learning outcomes. I now know that learners might not be the best evaluators of course content and the questions that are asked at the end of a course are influence more by enjoyment than

So the next lesson I taught I came up with pre determined questions to ask the students and was prepared to ask more questions to make sure the students understood the material. Using evaluations to make myself a better teacher is important. Without evaluations I would not know what I could improve on and the students would not benefit as much from my teaching. My goal is to be the best teacher for the students that I am responsible for, and evaluations help measure my…

My goal during the O&P process was unlike my fellow classmates in the Ed- Foundations block. I truly felt a responsibility to make real, personal connections with the students I encountered. Instead of just focusing on my teaching abilities, I wanted enhance my skills at making relationships with my students. Just as the high leverage practice states, it is important that teachers make meaningful connections with every student and, in return, those students will respect their teacher and appreciate lessons. All too often, teachers are more focused at the task at hand, regarding testing, homework, and grades rather than focusing the true uniqueness that each student has to offer.…

They are the most effective way to get all of your students involved, formatively assess them, engage them in critical thinking and much more. After gaining practicum experience, the “Thumbs-Up When Ready and Processing Cards” is a TPT that I find especially useful. When I am teaching, I find it difficult to gauge when my students are ready to share. By incorporating a simple thumbs-up or a fun processing card, their readiness becomes very clear to me. The other TPT that I am eager to use in my classroom is the “Hold Ups.” These are a fun, fast way to see where students are at.…

I enjoyed hearing about different perspectives on details that I didn’t think about before. I always tried to implement the feedback that I received from all my sources, I understood that it only made myself and my writing better. More specifically, my overall take away from the creation and revision of these materials, was that the writer really needs to think about his audience, and the goals that the writer wants to accomplish. As an employer, I would want to hear from the applicant why his or her experience is relevant and specific to the work that my company does. The feedback I received on my projects was very valuable and was happy to implement it into my writing.…

I would rehearse the lesson with each team member making revisions as needed, but the goal being that all the teachers understand what they are teaching. I believe that my team members and I did a good job for this being our first team-teaching lesson. I personally enjoy teaching a lesson on my own, but if there was a topic that I did not know much about and another teacher did I think that a team-teaching lesson would be great in that type of situation. I do plan to use team-teaching lessons when I become a teacher, but I do prefer to teach on my…

By working collaboratively and gradually releasing to work independently, students are engaged and self-motivated learners. While I was planning this lesson, I specifically thought about ways to ensure the students would be engaged and self-motivated. Since I have a diverse classroom of learning needs, I had to plan instruction that would support each and every student (Standard 7). In order to do this, I intentionally placed students in groups that would challenge them in a way that encouraged them to reach their full potential without allowing them to shut down and give up out of frustration. I also used group work, such as reading the problem aloud together, to help differentiate.…

I feel that I need most improvement in the Theory section of the Five R’s and T(Laureate Education, 2009c). I am guilty of having negative beliefs about what my students can do. It was not until listening to Dr. Garcia’s explanation of this practice that I realized how negative thoughts about students can affect how I teach my students. Many times instead of truly differentiating work to fit the different needs of my students I have given easier assignments. Instead, I should be requiring the same rigor from all of my students.…

The grow your skills and to gain a better understanding of yourself as a teacher, reflection is essential. Reflection allows teachers, to look back at lessons, weeks, terms or even years and view what went right and what went wrong thus allowing teachers to start to think critically about what is best for them moving forward. Reflection is crucial to the success of a student teacher, as without it they will struggle to grow, recognise their mistakes and adjust their methods in the future. When reflecting on my own placement and in particular on the above lesson, I have learnt a lot about myself and what I need to do to become a quality teacher.
