For many years, humans have questioned the existence of animals. Animals have provided us with many needs such as entertainment and food, but are they really here to serve the human race? Many people argue that they are for it is the "circle of life". Animals eat other animals such as in the short story "Living like Weasels" by Annie Dillard. It discussed how weasels prey off of birds, rabbits, and mice. If animals are allowed to prey on other animals, then humans are allowed as well. The counter argument is that we abuse our animals through the farm industries. Meat industries and farms abuse the natural lifestyle of animals so eating animals as the "circle of life" is invalid. These animals are not capable of feeling the natural freedom that they deserve because of these industries. The farming factory industry strives to maximize the output while minimizing the expenses of these animals. Farms endure constant fear on many animals such as giving small spaces for hens. The hens are not capable of turning or lying down due to the discomfort. Many farms also use antibiotics to make the animals grow faster and to keep them alive in those disgusting conditions. Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are one of those antibiotics are given to these animals. GMO is any organisms whose genetic material has been altered with to change the organic growth. These GMOs can cause allergies in children under the ages of 18. Most of these animals that are being given GMO is to produce milk and eggs than they naturally do. That is why there are the term predator and prey. Some animals that are weaker than the others are described to be the prey. While the predator is the most dominant species that is allowed to prey on others. Humans are considered to be a predator because it 's natural for humans to hunt and prey on meat. The human race may not use tools and express emotions exactly like the animals that surround the world, but it does not exempt humans from the status of an animal. No two species share the exact same behavior sets but humans do share much too in common to act that humans are not part of the animal status. The only issue that makes it this argument invalid is the way we treat animals in the meat industry. These industries have changed a lot of nutrients in the meat that is found in the grocery stores. Animals are also treated with such cruelty in those industries. These industries tend to keep the GMO animals in very crowded and unsanitary cages, again making it uncomfortable for these animals.
