I am told that a personal statement is the one thing that can make or break your application. So in preparation, you’re supposed to do your homework before you even being writing it. You ask mentors, faculty, and other important people in your life what exactly you should write about. They tell you to talk about yourself, but not to talk about yourself. They say give insight but not too much. They say include why you want to be a doctor but don’t make it boring or generic. So then what makes a good personal statement? What about this particular essay causes so many students to prepare months in advance, stay up countless nights, just to talk about themselves? This is definitely one of those things that are easier said than done.

I have witnessed patients in hospitals who only want to speak to their nurses. One man even told the doctor to relay all of his health information through his nurse because he felt as though she “makes it so much easier”. I feel as though the main goal is to increase medical compliance. And by this I am referring to making sure patients are taking their necessary medications, making and attending those needed doctors appointments, and feeling confident in their primary care providers. I am immensely proud of myself for pursuing a nursing license prior to medical school. With this route, I was able to gain valuable insight as to what it truly is to be a healthcare professional while also obtaining valuable clinical experience. Upon entrance into nursing school, I believe that I have greatly improved academically and my drive has grown exponentially. I believe that I possesses the integrity, compassion, and persistence to make a difference. Now I am only searching for a chance to offer more to my
