Accreditation programs have a huge impact on a healthcare organization’s performance standards across the United States. Accreditation reviews on quality achievement such as the Joint Commission’s review, has health organizations setting procedures and certain policies for their healthcare settings. According to the National Institute of Health, there is a higher probability that a healthcare center that is accredited will adhere to the evidence based guidelines than a facility that is not accredited. The PCP’s in the United States are often described as the “gate keeper”, and are useful in referring to specialists, which are important but not the most important thing when dealing with health for someone. The patient centered medical home and their primary care physician should be the base of their medical needs, and I think this type of environment where the patient is not rushed out of the office, but really listened to is the best on improving continuity of care. Chronically ill patients should benefit from the patient centered medical homes the most, because they need the most coordination of care among providers.
