The purpose of the accountability ladder aids us in understanding the reasons behind why we may not be achieving the results we would like in either our personal or professional lives or both. It helps us identify how we view the world, and our attitude towards it, and how things react in response to our individual viewpoints.
There are multiple steps included in the accountability ladder. Starting with step one, becoming aware of reality, and pin-pointing what’s actually going on with yourself. Once you understand, and grasp the issues you’re experiencing, then you can take further steps in overcoming them. I started working at the dealership when I was 16 and held a position as a yard boat, but within a short period I was promoted to an office job. Holding an office position at the dealership was a status symbol, and meant being at a higher authority; however, I’m always complaining about how I do not get enough acknowledgement at work from my superiors. I started using my age as an excuse for why my managers tend to cast me aside on important subjects. Eventually, from that point on I reached the “wait and hope” position of the ladder, in which I wait by until the day something changes and I suddenly become more involved in the day to day operations.
